Kim Cooper Findling
is the publisher of Dancing Moon Press and an author, editor, journalist and teacher based in Bend, Oregon. She is a fifth-generation Oregonian and award-winning writer of stories about her beloved home state. An Oregon Coast native, Kim’s early predilection was to spend those rainy childhood days reading, a desire which effectively laid the groundwork for the life of a writer.
After earning a B.A. in Psychology from University of Oregon and a M.S. in Natural Resource Education from Oregon State University, she worked as an educator before taking her writing seriously and sending out her earliest submissions.
For the last two decades, she has worked as a magazine editor, travel writer, memoirist, journalist, teacher and author. She is currently the managing editor of Bend Magazine, as well as the author of Bend, Oregon Daycations: Day Trips for Curious Families, Day Trips From Portland: Getaway Ideas for the Local Traveler and Chance of Sun: An Oregon Memoir.
Her work has appeared in many magazines and literary journals including Alaska Air, Bend Magazine, Cascade Journal, 1859 Magazine, Horizon Air, The Oregonian, Sky West, Travel Oregon, Oregon Quarterly, Oregon Coast, Northwest Travel, High Desert Journal, Southern Oregon Magazine, Bend Living, Women’s Health and Fitness, Pregnancy and Seattle.
Kim teaches writing workshops around the Pacific Northwest. She loves coaching writers to embrace their own stories, to improve their writing and manuscripts, and to follow their dreams to book publication.
Kim’s books have been published in three distinct ways: by contract with a large publisher (traditional publishing), as a passion project with an independent publisher (small press), and on her own (self-publishing). This gives her a unique and broad experience in the world of book publishing. In each alley, she has met considerable success, and is thrilled to be able to share her experience and knowledge with emerging writers.
Kim has two more books forthcoming: The Sixth Storm, which she co-authored with her daughter Libby, will be released spring of 2018 from Dancing Moon Press. Day Trips to the Oregon Coast releases spring of 2020 from Globe Pequot Press.
